Andreas obtained his PhD in macromolecular chemistry from the Leibnitz University Hannover in Germany under the supervision of Prof. Henning Menzel. He spent two years as a DFG Postdoctoral Researcher at the the IBM Almaden Research Centre and Stanford University with Dr. Bob Miller, Dr. James Hedrick and Prof. Curtis Frank developing novel polymers for electronic applications by controlled radical polymerisation.
From 2000-2008 Andreas worked as a Senior Industrial Researcher in the polymer industry (DSM). In 2008 he was awarded a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Stokes Lectureship and moved to Dublin City University where he established the first dedicated polymer research group in Ireland for which he received the DCU President’s Research Award in recognition of outstanding research achievements.
In 2015, Andreas accepted a StAR Professorship at RCSI under the Strategic Academic Recruitment Programme. He is since heading the interdisciplinary Polymer Chemistry and Biopolymer Lab at RCSI, where he combines fundamental and application informed research. In 2018 he was awarded the RCSI CEO Innovation Award for his industrial engagement at RCSI.
