Located in the Department of Chemistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), the Polymer Chemistry and Biopolymer Laboratory (Heise Group) is an interdisciplinary research team with interests in fundamental and applied polymer chemistry for the design of functional biomaterial. Being integrated into one of the worlds leading medical universities, the group is developing bioactive polymers informed by clinical needs in areas such as drug delivery, tissue engineering, and topical applications.
The group has close ties and shared laboratory facilities with the Tissue Engineering Research Group (TERG) and the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences on a number of academic and industrial projects. It is involved in national research centres such as the CURAM SFI Centre for Medical Devices and the AMBER SFI Advanced Materials and Bioengineering Research Centre as well as international EU research projects and consortia.
